During early bushwalking days and later geological mapping work in many wild parts of Australia, Bob often felt transfixed by striking landscapes thinking, “I’d like to paint that one day”. Early attempts in oils were exercises in frustration but some good tuition later on introduced him to the magic of watercolour.  He likes to push the boundaries of watercolour to express the atmosphere, mood or mystery of the landscape, so the style of many of his paintings is more semi-abstract than realism.
